A little about me
I am a devoted wife to the most amazing guy...my best friend! And I am a busy mother of 5 wonderful children.  Life is hectic at times, but "my cup runneth over" with the many blessings Yahweh has showered upon me and my family.  I am a born-again Christian, striving to be a better mother, a better wife, and a woman more deserving of the title "the King's daughter"...a woman after God's own heart.

What is Chayil?

"Chayil" is a Hebrew word that takes on several meanings in Jewish text.  It can mean....bravery (Ps. 76:6); capability (Prov. 12:4); triumph (Ps. 118:15); a rampart (a defensive or protective barrier) (Ps. 84:8); or wealth (Prov.13:22).

Now, I don't know about you, but I would love to be described as a "woman of chayil"; a woman whose worth is far about rubies!!  And the most beautiful thing is that in the Bible God clearly defines a true woman...a woman after His own heart.

Here is a basic run down of the traits of a chayil woman of God, according to Proverbs 31.....
  • She is an excellent wife with noble character, and is far more precious than jewels.  "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."
  • She is trustworthy to her husband."The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil." "She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."
  • She is a hardworking woman and she does not complain."She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands." "She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar."
  • She makes sure that her family and servants are well taken care both day and night. "She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens."
  • She is physically strong. " She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms."
  • She has hope and integrity. "She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night."
  • She is determined to accomplish her goals, and conquers the many obstacles that she is faced with. "She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff."
  • She helps the poor and needy. "She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy."
  • She confidently takes care of her family, making sure they are always warm and comfortable when it is cold."She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet."
  • She dresses nice, modestly and clean with what she has."She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple."
  • Her husband is well known and has a good reputation because of her. "Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land."
  • She is a businesswomen. "She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant." "She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard."
  • She is mentally and emotionally strong. "Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come."
  • She has a positive attitude, and teaches others her wisdom and knowledge. "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness."
  • She puts her family first and has values and morals about herself. "She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness."
  • She is blessed and her family praises her. "Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her."
  • She is determinded and is fully persuaded. "Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all."
  • She is genuine and fears God. "Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised."
  • She is blessed and highly favored amongst many. "Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates."

It's a little overwhelming, when you try and measure yourself up against God's standards, isn't it?  Is it doable?  I mean.....can I really be a "Proverbs 31" woman?  I believe so.  "But with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26).  All He needs is a willing, humble and obedient heart. The more I have studied God's Word, the more I have realised that it's what's on the inside that radiates to the outside.  If your true focus of your inner life is on God, then it overflows and shines in our external lives!  If we take the time to spend time alone with God, seeking His will for our lives, searching the Scriptures, praying....the He fills us with chayil traits, which we can use to live our lives and bring glory and honour to His name!

I don't know about you, but I have a re-newed hunger and desire to be transformed by Yahweh, into the woman He desires of me.
